Finding solutions for premature ejaculation

Finding solutions for premature ejaculationIf you are experiencing premature ejaculation, you’re not the only one, and – you don’t have to deal with it forever. There are multiple treatment methods that can be very successful in stopping this problem and they are as follows:

SEXUAL THERAPY

A sex therapist might encourage simple steps that you can do on your own, such as masturbating an hour or two before sex so you’re able to delay your ejaculation during sex. Kegel exercises, where you strengthen the muscle that controls the flow of ejaculate, and stop and go techniques may also be prescribed. If you are still experiencing trouble, some doctors will recommend that you take a break from actual intercourse, and focus on other kinds of intimate play with your partner. Taking some of the stress off of ejaculation could actually be a big help.

MEDICATIONS

The most common medicines prescribed are anti-depressants or topical creams. Here is what each one can do for you:
Anti-Depressants: A major side effect in a lot of anti-depressant medications is delayed ejaculation. So for this cause, even if you’re not experiencing depression, your doctor may prescribe these pills. Other side effects of the anti-depressants can include decreased libido, dry mouth, nausea and drowsiness. You may want to really consider other options before taking these pills, as some may feel that the side effects may be worse than the initial problem.

Topical Creams: Topical anesthetic creams can be rubbed onto the penis to lessen the sensitivity of the penis, and thus delay ejaculation. The cream is put on the penis, and then wiped off when the desired level of sensitivity is reached. Some men feel that the decrease in feeling also decreases the pleasure derived from sex, and in some cases the cream has been known to rub off on to the woman’s genitalia causing decreased sensitivity for her too. It does work for some, however, so it may be worth a try.

COGNITIVE BEHAVIOR THERAPY

Often, the cause stems from performance anxiety. Talking with a doctor about how you feel before, during and after sex will help you sort out the source of your anxiety, and hopefully put a stop to it. Most of the time, cognitive behavior therapy is used in conjunction with pharmaceutical drugs for best results.

The best way to deal with premature ejaculation is to begin with the simpler methods to delay ejaculation, such as masturbation techniques and muscle exercises. If these don’t work for you, then you should start thinking about medication and therapy. Medication isn’t always needed and often has more negative side effects than benefits, so be sure to discuss the medication thoroughly with your doctor before deciding if it’s right for you.

About the author

Hi, I’m Joseph O’Connor. I am a twenty-six year old man from Texas, USA. I fell into writing about sex toys when I was looking for a way to both try new things and explore my body… Things progressed rapidly. It turns out there aren’t many (straight) men that can talk about sex the way I do without getting downright ridiculous. I’m always reading more/learning about the human body and sexual response and always looking for ways to improve my sex life (and that of those I come in contact with)
