Stephenson’s Spermatic Truss – the patented perils of boys jerking off
In the early days of innocent youth, every boy believes he is the only one who has discovered a special little secret known as jerking off, and that it’s a special talent that he alone has acquired. This included Stephenson’s Spermatic Truss, patented in 1876, the cock was placed in a pouch and tied down, making erections impossible. Pity the poor buggers who had to walk around in one of these. They were purchased in bulk by public schools of the day, so Stephenson became rich off of his invention.
He changed his device fully 21 years later, adding a metal hood under which the cock could move freely. Any erection would then drive the penis against painful spikes, thus making the device even more of a cruel deterrent. Thanks Mr.Stephenson, that was really thoughtful of you. Nonetheless, it didn’t stop a song of the era being written about the subject. One chap at least must have escaped the bonds of his Spermatic Truss to enjoy himself as he sang:
